We like to have fun in our Year 1 / 2 classes and the activities that we do in class are fun.

At the beginning of the school term in September, we had plenty of exciting things to do.  We started off in our Science topic with growing butterflies in our classroom!  The caterpillars lived in a special hatching basket that we had to look after very carefully, so the butterflies would hatch out of their cocoons and become beautiful butterflies.  As a whole class, we set the butterflies free in the school garden.

We followed the Science topic with our first Context for Learning topic which was called, ‘Helping Hands.’  Within this topic we learnt about Florence Nightingale.  Vegetable soup was on the menu for our class after a very exciting Literacy lesson which involved making it!  Some of us made a large model out of clay of Florence’s pet owl, Athena.  The Year 2’s also made individual Athena models out of clay.

A church visit was next on the list.  We walked to St. Timothy’s church where we were shown around by Rev. Desics.  He showed us the font, the organ and we even tasted the bread!

We have had a very musical October with our visitor Mrs Lawson.  We sang songs and played musical instruments that sounded sweet to the ears of anyone who listened.  John Brown’s baby, Kye Kye Ku-le, Boom Chikka Boom and The King’s Magical Musical Box were the songs we sang.

In the run up to Christmas, we are so busy!  We have a trip to Middlesbrough Little Theatre to see ‘Peter Pan,’ a trip to Preston Park Museum to see the toy display and we all have the Christmas nativity to look forward to (so bring your singing voices!).
