Year 2 Caterpillars
|
During September we watched our caterpillars, grow big and fat and hairy! They turned into butterflies and then we released them. They fluttered away and we waved goodbye! We made some beautiful silk paintings of our butterflies and clay life cycles.
In October we walked around the lake to St Timothy’s Church. We met Father Robert. He showed us lots of objects in the church. We saw bibles, a font, the large organ, the Easter candle and the bread and wine.
During October we learned about Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole. We made some healthy vegetable soup, just like Florence gave to the sick soldiers. Florence had a pet owl called Athena, so we made some clay models. Florence was called “the lady with the lamp” so we made paper Turkish lamps. We dressed up as Florence, and we did some drama and hot-seating.
During November Mrs Lawson came to our class to teach us some new music and songs. We learned John Brown’s baby, Kye Kye Ku-le, Boom Chikka Boom and The King’s Magical Musical Box.
We do some brain gym every morning to wake us up and use both sides of our brain! We use playdough, play games, do clapping songs and sing.
In December we are going to see Peter Pan the pantomime at the Little Theatre – “ Oh no you’re not!” “Oh yes we are!” We are also going to visit Preston Hall Museum to find out about toys long ago.
