Visit To Life Centre
Centre for Life Visit

Year 3 is split between two classes – Miss Hinnigan has most of the Year 3 children and the remainder are with Mrs Willis in the mixed Y3/4 class. The two classes, along with Mr. Walker in Year 4 work on the same Context for Learning and Science topics but Miss Hinnigan’s class do a few different things as well.

Our first Context for Learning was called The Future Is Wild where we looked at climate and adaptation for Geography and then made some moving aliens for Design and Technology. In Miss Hinnigan’ class we also related the context to literacy and did some non-fiction work on Space and thought about what it might be like to live on different planets. All Year 3 and 4 children went on a trip to the Centre for Life in Newcastle where we learned all about Habitats and Space. The children found this really interesting!

Our new Context for Learning links together History and Art and is called Locomotion: Super Heroes of The North East. We are looking at George Stephenson and Timothy Hackworth and the impact they had on the local area. We will use this as a basis for some unique art projects! The children have been doing some research of their own and found out lots of exciting information and hope to learn even more on our trip to Locomotion in Shildon.

Children in Miss Hinnigan’s class have also been taking a thematic approach to their creative writing and we look in our treasure chest every week to see what we can use to help us write some really good stories. At the moment we are doing Spooky stories and Miss Hinnigan wouldn’t want to live in the deserted houses the children have been writing about!
