Year 5 Water Display
Year 5 Water Display

In Year 5 we have been finding out about Water. Where it comes from, how it is used and the different forms it takes. We produced some beautiful art work and wonderful Water Poems. This work can be seen in the Dining Hall on our ‘Water, Water Everywhere’ display.

This term we are investigating Toys. How they move? How they are made? Materials used? The intended audience? We visited a Gallery to view traditional Indian Toys. The designs were very imaginative and vibrant, take a look at the photographs.  We are now going to use some of these ideas to make our own toys.

In September we spent the day at seven stories in Newcastle. We found out lots about Roah Dahl, and particularly enjoyed dressing up as characters from his books. In Literacy we became Play writers and wrote our own play scripts for Matilda.

In Numeracy we have been securing our knowledge of the number system and place value. Below is a list of some of the key objectives that we are aiming to know by the end of year 5…..

  • Know all of our times tables.
  • Carry out long multiplication of a two-digit by a two-digit integer.
  • Use all four operations (division, multiplication, addition, subtraction) to solve simple word problems.

Homework is given out on a Friday and should be completed and returned to school by the following Thursday. This enables Miss Harris and Miss Olsen to go through our homework with us to ensure we have understood and completed the task. Spellings are given out on a Friday and tested the following Friday.

We are on a rota for swimming; our session is a Wednesday afternoon. The children are informed which class are swimming each term.

We are looking forward to the rest of the year when we will be covering- ‘Read all about it!’, ‘Going for Gold’ and ‘It’s a wonderful world’.
