Listening Hard...
Town Hall Treasure Hunt!

Year 6 pupils visit the Town Hall in June 2007. As part of Local democracy week pupils took part in a treasure hunt, searching out clues about Middlesbroughs' past history. The pupils then took part in a debate 'Should children wear school uniform'. Each pupil was allowed to vote using a ballot paper and guess what - By a massive majority vote the year 6 pupils of Hemlington Hall did not agree with school uniform!

Some Year 6 Pupils with David Foster
Are you a community kid?

Year 6 have now completed their 10 week programme on community awareness led by David Foster. The pupils enjoyed bowling at Hollywood Bowl as a treat for completing the programme, and also shared their work with parents at a celebration assembly on Friday May 4th. Each pupil was presented with a certificate and made a promise to look after their community.

Year 6 Christmas Animations
Year 6 Christmas Animation

In December year 6 got in to the Christmas spirit and got creative with their own Christmas animations! They planned and made the animations in groups, and the results are excellent. See for yourself and watch the year 6 Christmas Animations. Well done to all the pupils who took part.

Year 6 Victorian Day

Victorian Day

In November, Year 6 children took part in a Victorian day. Master Stephen Sherlock visited the school to help the children to learn more about life in Victorian school.

The children and the teachers dressed in Victorian style clothes.  Master Sherlock taught the children how to write using traditional fountain pens.  The children learned about the three Rs and took part in Maths, English and Geography lessons.  They were also shown the different ways that children were disciplined in Victorian schools.  This included the cane, the ‘back breaker’ and the ‘knuckle clamps.  During the afternoon the children had some fun using different Victorian toys such as the ‘stick and wheel’ and the whip.
